The process of building foam insulation is constantly being improved and at the same time often accompanied by the use of the most effective and new technologies and more promising building materials than those that everyone is accustomed to. And now another type of high-quality insulation has appeared on the market, which is sprayed onto the surface of a specific area. This material has already occupied a leading position among the best heat insulators.
What is foam insulation?
Foam insulation performs a dual
function: thermal insulation and sound insulation. It is a highly effective
product for thermal and acoustic bridge insulation, both in small spaces and on
large surfaces.
There are two main types of
insulating foam: "spray insulating" foam and pump insulating foam.
We will see both methods in more
detail: Aisinen-type insulating foam differs from polyurethane foam in a
specific point: expanded or clogged polyurethane foam is much less ecological.
However, both types of foam sound insulation are very effective and provide
excellent results.
Capping, cap, seal, insulation:
these are the characteristics of pump foam
Pump insulating foam is very
effective in covering construction defects and in sealing thermal gaps: cracks,
blind boxes, plumbing fixtures, etc. Don't let the winter cold pass through
these cracks. Polyurethane pump insulation foam is a thermal and acoustic
insulation that can be easily applied even in the smallest corners.
How is the insulating foam applied
in the pump to achieve optimal thermal and acoustic insulation? You just have
to fill in the space and wait for the foam to expand. Simple and effective! The
application tube is placed in the aerosol valve and the walls or panels of the
vacuum are moistened before insulation is added. Next, the foam pump is shaken
for 1 minute, and half the volume of the space we want to isolate is filled
with foam because the foam will expand. Let the foam dry for half an hour,
remove the excess to level the board and leave it for 24 hours until it is
completely absorbed.
Attention! Expanded or expanded foam
is not suitable for some spaces, especially outdoor spaces, or where liquids
and/or moisture are present. It is only suitable for use in sheltered and
weather-protected locations.
Application
When foam insulation is sprayed, it
coats the surface and hardens quickly. It dries quickly, provides relatively
permanent insulation and will not sag. If the foam extends beyond the desired
area, the excess insulation can be trimmed or trimmed to the desired size.
protection
Spray foam insulation is somewhat
dangerous for people when spraying. Particles can be breathed into the eyes,
skin, or through the mouth and nose if appropriate protective clothing and
equipment are not worn. The chemicals can irritate the eyes and respiratory
tract and cause swelling or a rash on the skin. The person is advised to wear
goggles, a respirator, gloves, long sleeves, and long pants when spraying foam
insulation.
Aside from cost and cleanliness,
there are clear benefits to using spray foam insulation, which can penetrate
small corners and crevices while providing better insulation. It can eliminate
drafts and keep the building warm when it cools down. These features can help
reduce a building's utility bill. By filling in cracks, foam insulation also
helps prevent insects from entering the building.
Spray foam also adheres well to
insulation surfaces, so it can adhere to walls from the inside or be laid on
the underside of floors and insulated from below. Spray foam insulated homes
often have a higher resale value than those using fiberglass insulation or
other types of insulation. There are also environmental advantages; Notably,
there are no fiberglass particles floating in the air. Also, the spray foam insulation
does not itch when touched, and it prevents mold growth because it does not
absorb water.
Foam insulation and use
for private homes
In some cases, it is more profitable
to use foam insulation, which has a number of advantages over conventional or bulk
slab. Foam insulation has been used for a long time, has already gained a
positive reputation, and has established itself as a popular building material
with its own field of application. Foaming is widely used by building
organizations for insulation, so why not use it in homes and private
apartments.
How are foam insulation
heaters used?
Liquid foam heaters are brewed
directly into the insulated structure. A liquid foam is supplied from a
cylinder or from a device that prepares a composition of components under
pressure with a hose to the desired point. Subsequently, chemical reactions
with the composition occur and, as a result, the foam hardens, forming a foamy
homogeneous structure. The types of chemicals that occur in reactions depend on
the type of insulation, and some use air and moisture on the body and in the
air. Some insulation materials expand greatly during solidification, others can
reduce in size ... Next, about the different types of these materials.
Advantages of foam
insulation
Why is foam insulation used? They
offer the following:
• Capable of creating a seamless
continuous homogeneous layer, even around complex surfaces.
• It can be used in crevices, in
narrow open cavities, where it can expand without breaking the material.
• Certain types can be used in
closed cavities within structures - they expand slightly and contract upon
solidification.
• Foam insulation can bind
structures together, and has adhesive properties, which are used in
construction.
• The materials are characterized by
a high degree of thermal insulation, ie, these are effective insulation
materials.
• When performing work, significant
productivity is achieved, several times more than if plate material is laid.
The most important advantage in many
cases is that it is not necessary to disassemble the structure for insulation,
it is not necessary to completely level the surface, it is enough to remove
spacers and dust, or they are used “as is”. They are used for any
irregularities in fact.
What is the most widely
used insulation foam
The following types of foam
insulation materials are mainly used in the facilities.
• Polyurethane foam. It has a higher
price, but at the same time it has great strength and better thermal insulation
properties. It binds strongly to structures and significantly increases in
volume when spraying. It has a high resistance to steam movement and hardly
accumulates water. But it degrades from UV exposure, and requires sun
protection. The formed surface of the insulating layer is very uneven - the
average thickness is taken into account. Hazardous in the case of fire
toxicity, but generally not equivalent to an environmental hazard. The widest
application is found...
Polyurethane foam. Balloons with
construction foam on the basis of polyurethane foam help builders - the seams
and fastening are closed with this material. But it must be borne in mind that
the resulting composition is not polyurethane foam at all, as such.
Polyurethane foam is literally afraid of moisture, it crumbles from it. Also UV
rays. It is not recommended to close the layers of insulation in private homes,
and fasten them with polyurethane foam, since dew can destroy the material over
time. But it is widely used in closed narrow gaps, along the perimeter of
windows and doors, with all measures to prevent dew from falling into the
heat-insulating layer. There are many foams in terms of their qualities, and
the balloons are selected according to the purposes of use….
Where to apply foam insulation in a
private house
If the house is a frame, then the
usual technology for this construction is to foam the outer frame with
polyurethane foam. These structures include a sloping roof made of wood for all
homes. It is easy to insulate by spraying polyurethane foam from the attic
side. After spraying, the frame is closed with a dense, environmentally
friendly finish, for example, cement particle board. Spraying is carried out by
an organization that has the necessary equipment and materials for it.
Spray insulation on the frame
If the walls in the house are
double, leaving a space between the load-bearing layer and the outer coating
(usually a brick wall), it's time to insulate them. Easiest to do by pouring a
foamy substance Penisole. After a while, a slight shrinkage will occur and a
layer of effective insulation will remain inside the wall with a thickness
approximately similar to a cavity. Also, the foundation can connect the
necessary equipment to any horizontal surface, for example, underground. But in
this case, it is necessary to provide protection from both steam and rodents.
As we can see, modern methods of insulation simplify construction, and foam insulation can be described as “fast and monolithic”. As a rule, users are satisfied with the use of foam insulation.
